- Trial counsel for a major energy company in a refinery construction dispute involving the construction manager, general contractor, its surety, and sub-contractors. The four-week trial involved issues of cost overruns, engineering and design work, and delay damages. John worked extensively with expert and third-party witnesses who testified about various construction processes, engineering issues, and construction cost accounting.
- Trial counsel for an automobile manufacturer in state administrative agency proceedings and in federal court in disputes with franchised dealers and dealer
- Represented a piping manufacturer in a refinery construction dispute involving issues of design, manufacturing, and installation defects.
- Represented an energy services company in a dispute involving the design and operation of a deepwater drill ship.
- Represented a major energy company in an arbitration involving offshore natural gas transportation and processing rights.
- Represented and argued summary judgment for a major energy company in a royalty dispute over post-production expenses.
- Lead trial counsel for small business owner in property rights dispute.
- Appellate counsel for a state government agency in an appeal to the Fifth Circuit in a case involving constitutional questions on interstate commerce and personal jurisdiction.
- Appellate counsel for an individual shareholder/employee in appeal to the Supreme Court of Texas in a dispute over shareholder rights and breach of contract.
- Appellate counsel for a third-party administrator of an ERISA plan in appeal to the Fifth Circuit in a dispute involving the recovery of life insurance benefits.
- Appellate counsel for insurance agent in state court appeal involving issues of arbitrability.
